David and Dan Sperau are third-generation car enthusiasts. Their grandfather worked for Ford Motor Company and was a Mid-Atlantic regional service manager. Their father owned a Ford dealership in Selma, Alabama during the 1980s and was in the automobile business for years. Having grown up in Automotive, once the brothers finished college, they went straight into the auto industry.
For most of David’s career, he worked in Ford dealerships both in Maryland and Georgia. Dan has worked in Maryland as part of both domestic and import dealerships his entire life. After working for separate dealerships for many years, the brothers started working together as a broker/dealer duo.
Kimani Clark is an old, high school friend of Dave and Dan. Although not a car guy like the brothers, Kimani has extensive computer science and engineering knowledge and has worked as an Intellectual Property Patent Attorney throughout his career. He joined the Autosled team early on, during the idea phase, to advise on software, intellectual property rights, and patent protections.
The first concept of Autosled emerged in late 2016. David, then a Dealer Principal, had grown frustrated with the time it took to move his vehicles. Dan, then a broker for David’s dealership, shared similar frustrations. In addition to consistently having to chase down the location of vehicle shipments, it was increasingly stressful to find the necessary paperwork for each. On top of that, internal difficulties arose when trying to pay transporters quickly for their work. Out of these problems grew the idea for Autosled. Originally, David and Dan envisioned an app that would be exclusively for Dealers. Conceptualizing the technology and testing ideas with other advisors and founders like Kimani proved that these struggles went far beyond the automotive dealership. Frustrations existed for both the Transporters and the Dealers. What they needed was a 360-degree platform that streamlined the auto transport industry.
What started as a Dealer platform became a platform for everyone.– DAN SPERAU
There were long-standing problems in car transport services. Autosled was created to disrupt the old automotive transport market and make everyone’s lives easier by providing efficiencies in day-to-day transport processes.
In September 2018, Autosled’s founders began building the app from the ground up- bringing the ideas they had envisioned into reality. Co-founder, Kimani Clark, offered his patent law expertise to help protect Autosled’s new software from competitors. In 2019, Autosled launched for Transporters, automotive Dealer Principals, and individual families looking to ship personal vehicles. Autosled continues to work to revolutionize the automotive logistics industry and make the vehicle shipment process as stress-free as possible for transporters, dealers, car brokers, and retail consumers alike. Most recently, as of October of 2020, Autosled has expanded its vehicle shipping operations nationwide. To get started with Autosled, download the app on Google Play or in Apple’s App Store.
